I have been at the SID conference for most of this week. There were a number of crazy things at this show, which focuses on display technology. I’ll walk you through a few of them that were fascinating, but the one I’m most excited about still isn’t available: An outdoor viewable transflective display. The sad thing is the first PDA I carried, the Compaq iPaq (ironically built by HTC, arguably the strongest Apple competitor today), had an outdoor viewable transflective display and nearly a decade later I haven’t seen another product that I could use both indoors and out. There is finally hope that this may be changing, thanks to Qualcomm’s Mirasol technology.

Motorola surprised us in June of this year with the announcement of an upcoming 2 GHz smartphone by the end of the year. And it appears that it may take a while until such processors will become available in phones as the rumored Nexus 2 will most likely get a 1.2 GHz chip and dual-core and triple-core phones seem to make more sense than bunsenburner chips in the palm of your hand.
