Mozilla is wasting no time to roll out its next major version of Firefox: Version 4.0 will bring a major interface update that will borrow the design idea from Google’s Chrome browser to create the perception of a much more nimble and faster browser. Firefox 3.6.4, dubbed the “Lorentz” browser, will arrive on June 1 with out-of-process plug-ins and hardware acceleration.

Just when you thought Google’ Chrome web browser is untouchable and light years ahead of its rivals, Microsoft finds that Chrome does not excel in all performance disciplines. Hardware acceleration hands Microsoft a huge advantage at this time. If we believe one of Microsoft’s examples, IE9 can run heavy graphics more than 30 times faster than the latest Chrome browser.

You just don’t go out and buy an iPad without thinking of the consequences: There is no shortage of excitement over the iPad, but there is plenty of criticism as well. Mozilla’s man in charge for Firefox, Mike Beltzner, is now weighing in, warning that those accepting the iPad are “hitch[ing] their digital destinies to Apple’s bandwagon.”
