iPad Sales Apparently Strong, Netbooks Weak

Wolfgang Gruener in Business on April 05

It appears that Apple can celebrate a successful launch of its iPad, despite reports that the iPad did not sell out everywhere. Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster, who had sent out analysts to 20 sales locations across the country, lifted his sales expectations to about 700,000 units on its first day, which is two to three times higher than his initial forecast. Meanwhile, sales of netbooks are slowing, according to IDC.

The iPad was Invented 38 years ago

Kurt Bakke in Science & Research on April 03

Giving Apple credit for reshaping the way we use computers, well at least attempting it, would be a bit too much. Reading that paper is a spooky experience – it is fascinating how closely the author describes what the iPad is today. He even got the price right – almost four decades ago.

Analysis: The iPad is a Jack of All Trades, Master of None

Rob Enderle in Business on April 02

Jack Gold in Business Products on March 29

Apple is set to launch its iPad in the next few days, and rumor is that it’s already sold out its first batch and has to ration the devices. This isn’t any real surprise, as the Apple aficionados are always first in line to obtain the latest gadget. And this is a compelling gadget. But the question remains, can the iPad assume the market position and massive adoption so many have predicted for it, or will it be relegated to a fast, first impact, and then trail off in sales?
