Analysis: HP Buys Palm. ARM Wins Big. Intel is Screwed.

The original HP tablet running Windows 7 at the most recent CES tradeshow was based on Intel’s Atom processor. HP now appears to have killed that product and replaced it with a rumored product under development with Palm, which should be based on ARM. These days, HP is Intel’s and Microsoft’s biggest and strongest partner. HP’s decision to drop Windows 7 and Intel, a result of years of frustration, signifies a major shift in the personal computing market and could result in the first real competitor to the iPad. But, regardless of that, it showcases a clear choice for ARM and one of the problems that Intel is struggling to overcome with Atom.

6 Cores for $150: AMD Challenges Intel 6-Core CPU With Bargain Price

Given the pace Intel and AMD set for the jump from mainstream dual- to quad-core processors, the arrival of affordable 6-core CPUs appears to be almost late. It may be a sign that there is not much demand for more than four cores at this time, but if you have use for it, this may be the time to consider an upgrade to six cores for about $150.

Intel Confirms Production of 22nm Processors for late 2011

Intel senior fellow Mark Bohr confirmed that Intel is on track to put its first 22nm processors into production in late 2011. So far, little information about the new production process, code-named P1270, has been revealed, but Bohr indicated that the challenge of Moore’s Law is getting more complex – and scaling cannot be accomplished without material changes anymore.
