Google today released a new public Windows beta version of its Chrome web browser, which comes with a handful of new features. However, the true improvement happens deep under the hood as Chrome 5 is substantially faster that Chrome 4, Safari 4 and Microsoft IE9 Platform Preview. It is stunning to see how quickly the browser sails through current Javascript benchmarks.

Microsoft’s IE9 Platform Preview isn’t really a browser that is especially practical yet. There isn’t even a URL bar and the installation of the browser might be a bit inconvenient if you are running anything less than Vista SP2 (XP is not supported in any version, period.) But Microsoft has done its homework. The browser’s JavaScript performance is impressive. Mozilla’s current Firefox version is not as fast as IE9. Extra: SLIDESHOW
