Nokia is really feeling the heat in the super-heated smart phone race. It recently lowered its estimates for sales, essentially admitting that the critical (and profitable) smart phone market continues to slip out of its grasp despite being an early leader in the space. Its market presence in smart phones continues to center around Europe, but even there its share is declining. It has been largely unable to penetrate the critical North American market, nor has it had major impact on the Far East smart phone market.

Seagate yesterday announced the first 3 TB external hard drive that will store, in theory, up to 120 HD movies, 1500 video games, thousands of photos so much music that we have to now call it “countless hours of digital music.” Of course, increasing storage capacity is part of the walk of time and I wonder if there is a time when enough is just enough. Do you really want to store all your photos on one drive?

Apple has built a reputation of mass-producing exceptional industrial designs and it appeared that Apple exceeded itself with the iPhone 4. By integrating the antenna in the visible casing of the device it appeared that Apple had found a way to overcome form follows function limitations. Of course that is, as we know now, not the case. Apple chose to compromise function in favor of form.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs is apparently much more of a Hollywood celebrity than generally believed. Not only did he appear at this year’s Oscar Awards, he reportedly also signed up for a series of counseling sessions at a popular celebrity rehab center. We are told Steve Jobs is currently staying at Promises Treatment Center in Malibu, California, to deal with an unexpected depression over a possible market failure of the iPad.
