Android tablets may be coming closer to a price point where the mainstream market could be considering an Android tablet as an option to the $500 and more iPad. The Iconia A100 is a 7-inch tablet that will sell for $330 as an 8 GB (flash memory) version and for $350 with 16 GB memory. The device runs Android 3.2 (including flash 10.3), weighs just 0.92 pounds and delivers a 1024×600 pixel, 16:10 – screen resolution via a capacitive touch screen.

There are two cameras – a 5 MP camera that be used for still images and 720p video recording as well as a 2MP front-facing webcam for video chats. The hardware is complemented by Nvidia’s Tegra 2 dual-core platform with 1 GB of memory. The battery provides enough power for up to five hours of web browsing and up to 4.5 hours of 720p video playback, Acer said.

Acer’s new Iconia is one of most attractive tablet options on the market today, even if we wished that the company could have resisted the rather odd ornamental design on the shell of the tablet. Those who think that $330 is too much to try a tablet could opt for Pandigital’s new Androdi 2.2 or 3.0 tablets, which sell in the $160 – $190 range. However, these devices use a resistive and not a capacitive touchscreen.
