It’s incentive time for the Wii. As Sony and Microsoft are preparing major controller upgrades for their game consoles, Nintendo has to react: The company said that, starting May 9, it will offer a black version of the Wii and bundle the MotionPlus add-on as well as the Sports Resort game with every console.
While Nintendo has pioneered motion-controls for game consols, it will only watch as Sony will introduce a Wii-like controller system and Microsoft a human interface controller later this year. However, in anticipation of relatively high price points of these new controllers, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said that his company “leads the way in delivering rich motion-control gaming experiences at an accessible price point.”
“By including even more of our top-quality hardware and software in the basic Wii system package, we’re extending that commitment to entertainment and value. Now more than ever, consumers can count on Nintendo to deliver inclusive fun and advanced motion controls at a mass-market price.” That mass-market price would be $200 for the Wii package – the same as before.

In February, the Wii was outsold by the Xbox 360 in the U.S. The new bundle seems to come just at the right time to spark new interest in the Wi.
