Apple sells 1 million iPads

Apple today said that it sold its one millionth iPad last Friday, 28 days after launch and one day before the introduction of the 3G iPad. The company noted that iPad users have already downloaded more than 12 million apps from the App Store and more than 1.5 million ebooks.

The sales result appears to be well in range with general analyst estimates that Apple will sell at least 3 million iPads by the end of the year (some analysts now believe that Apple will bell more than 7 million iPads in 2010). “One million iPads in 28 days—that’s less than half of the 74 days it took to achieve this milestone with iPhone,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Demand continues to exceed supply and we’re working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more customers.”

Net Applications recently said that the iPad currently accounts for 0.12% of web usage in the U.S. – and 0.25% in the San Francisco region.
