The iPad is selling like hotcakes. The MacBook pro is updated. What’s next? Yup, that would be the next iPhone, which is generally believed to be revealed sometime in June. An eagle-eyed source sent pictures of what could be a prototype device that got lost in a Silicon Valley bar to Engadget and launches a new wave of Apple product speculation that surely will result in an obscene amount of media coverage (yes, we are guilty as well) and climax in a product introduction featuring the iPhone inventor himself, Steve Jobs.
I will keep this one short, but I thought you might be interested. Apple’s iPhone 4G may have made its first accidental (is anything Apple does accidental?) appearance, in a bar in downtown San Jose. We have no idea what time of the day it was and whether its owner left the phone there on purpose, whether he was drunk under the table or whether the phone was accidentally dropped. From Engadget’s post:
” Apparently the phone was found on the floor of a San Jose bar inside of an iPhone 3G case. Right now we don’t have a ton of info on the device in question, but we can tell you that it apparently has a front facing camera (!), 80 GB of storage (weird, right?), and isn’t booting at this point (though it was previously, and running an OS that was decidedly new). It’s not clear if this is definitely a production model, or just a prototype that found its way into the world, but it’s certainly a compelling design, no matter how you look at it.”

The Telegraph has also posted pictures of what is supposedly the new iPhone 4G, saying that ‘the images show a sleek-looking iPhone with an aluminium back that is more reminiscent of the first-generation iPhone and new iPad computer than the glossy-backed iPhone 3G and 3GS handsets.” Interestingly enough, all those images somewhat match the case design of a device that was recently displayed on a Chinese web site.
There’s quite a bit that makes you scratch your head and somewhat believe that this is in fact the new iPhone. But why is it that those images continuously leak out of China and why does Apple let an employee take an iPhone prototype out on a stroll to a bar? Either this is part of Apple’s marketing strategy to spark media rumors about the new iPhone or someone is in quite some trouble.
We don’t expect Apple to comment on this device, but we do expect an announcement that will hint to a new iPhone in early June. Let the rumors begin, again.
