T-Mobile said that it will be enabling pre-orders for its first 4G phone later this month. The G2 was believed to go on sale for $200 on September 29, but now it seems that the launch has been pushed back to October 6.
The G2 will be T-Mobile’s first smartphone that can take advantage of the carrier’s HSPA+ network, which, in theory, can deliver download speeds of up to 21 Mb/s and upload speeds of up to 5.7 Mb/s. The company said that it will open preorders initially to its existing customers first.
The G2 will have a 3.7” screen and a slide-out keyboard. It is expected to run Android 2.2 and integrate an 800 MHz Snapdragon processor, which will enable the device to record and play 720p videos. There is a 5 megapixel camera and 8 MB preinstalled memory. According to T-Mobile, the G2 weighs 6.5 ounces, which is heavier than the iPhone 4’s 4.8 ounces.
TmoNews reports that the G2 will become available on October 6.
