According to Net Applications, iOs currently holds 1.13% share, while Linux is at 0.85%. It appears that iOS climbed past Linux in July for the first time. The continued growth of iOS remains impressive as Linux’ share was more than twice as high as iOS’ share just one year ago.

Net Applications’ data indicates that Linux held 0.94% in August 2009, while Apple’s mobile operating system was at 0.40%.

Overall, Windows XP remains the most popular operating system with 60.89%, followed by Windows 7 with 15.87% and Vista with 14.00%. The market share of Windows has remained stable just above 91% (91.34%), followed by Mac OS X (5.00%, also stable) and iOS (1.13%).

With a look at StatCounter, Windows XP came in at 55.38%, Windows 7 at 19.43% and Vista dropped at 17.68%. For September, Windows XP shows a slight gain and Windows 7 a subtle drop in market share so far.

According to StatCounter, it appears that the most popular mobile OS in North America is not iOS, but RIM’s Blackberry OS. The company lists Blackberry OS with a 35.7% share and iOS with 35.17%. Globally, StatCounter sees Symbian in the lead with 33.63%, followed by iOS (22.28%) and Blackberry OS (18.32%).
