Mozilla today released a Firefox 4-based Fennec browser, the mobile version of Firefox. The Alpha version is available for Nokia’s N900 phone as well as Android, and supports Sync, Add-ons and Mozilla’s Awesome Screen feature.

The new Fennec is more stable than the pre-Alpha that was released back in April, but in terms of features very similar – with the exception of the addiction of Firefox Sync. The mobile browser now synchronizes your Firefox history, bookmarks, open tabs, passwords and form data between your desktop and mobile. Y`All you have to do is to log in your Firefox Sync account.

Additionally, Fennec supports add-ons, and enables users to search for add-ons right from within the browser. There is a personalized start page that updates content while you have been away and reopens with tabs you had open when you left. Mozilla said that it will add alerts of recent activity from your email accounts and social media sites.

As previously, you can swipe to the left or right of the screen to access your tabs, browser controls and tools, which are placed out of the way while you browse the Web. “Typing on a phone is hard, that’s why you can bookmark a site with one tap, view tabs as thumbnails to easily see and open the page you want, and use the Awesome Screen to get to where you want to go in just a few a keystrokes,” Mozilla said.

This new version of Fennec also runs the new 2.0 version of the Gecko layout engine, which is much faster and more responsive than the previous 1.9x. The UI now runs in a separate process from the web content which enables Fennec to react much faster to user actions like scrolling and zooming, Mozilla said.
