I never understood the constant comparison with the Kindle and the iPad,
One is an eBook reader, the other has a regular screen that will hurt your eyes if you read books on it.

Simple.

I agree, Karen. It will be an interesting race and most certainly more interesting than the tablet race, if we forget for a moment that the kindle could evolve into a tablet platform as well.

Actually, the Kindle is advertised as running for up to a month if the wireless is turned off. And while it's true the e-ink platform does not support "enhanced" ebooks, it's also true that the book industry is not geared up to produce them except in very limited numbers, usually when a book has been turned into a movie or TV series. You are absolutely on target with the observation that Apple knows how to sell hardware and Amazon knows how to sell books. It will be interesting to see if Amazon can learn how to stay ahead of the game by adapting the technology it's producing (re supporting enhanced ebooks) and Apple can learn how to sell books. They certainly learned how to sell music.
