If you are waiting for the white iPhone 4 to become available, you may want to listen to Apple and realize that you may not really want a white Bumperphone anyway. Once again, the white iPhone 4 is delayed.
Apple today said that it is further delaying the release of the white iPhone 4, as they proved to be more “challenging to manufacture” than initially expected. The availability of the “more popular version” of the iPhone 4 isn’t affected, which is a slight hint that you should probably just order a black version of Apple’s bumper phone.
Since you need a rubber band anyway, you could always order a white case, if you really insist on a white phone. Or, if you are more adventurous, you could order a white face plate since Chinese manufacturers have figured out how to turn a black iPhone 4 into a white one before Apple figures out how to come up with a white iPhone.
But then, the wait for the white iPhone 4 may not matter much, since it is tough to get your hand on an iPhone 4 anyway. That said, it is somewhat interesting to listen to Apple saying that the black iPhone 4 is more popular when the white one has been delayed twice now, the first time on June 23 and now on July 23. Of course the black one is more popular, especially it is the only one available right now.
Apple has also released more specifics on the rubber band program for the iPhone 4. You can choose from bumpers that have been made available from Apple, Incase, Belkin, Griffin and Speck. If you have already purchased an iPhone 4, you must apply no later than August 22 for a bumper, otherwise you need to apply within 30 days of your iPhone 4 purchase. The program runs for purchases that are being made until September 30, 2010.
Those who already have a rubber-band powered iPhone 4, can ask for a full refund including taxes and shipping fees. Apple previously said that it estimates the cost of the bumper program at about $175 million.
