Microsoft delivered a stunning keynote at E3, showcasing a very compelling Kinect human interface, countless exclusives as well as the expected redesign of the Xbox 360. The new Xbox 360 is shipping today. Everyone attending the keynote received a free unit.
The new Xbox 360 is much more compact than the nearly five year old design we are used to today. The device is essentially the same in its core hardware, but now includes a 250 GB standard hard drives as well as Wi-Fi 802.11n. The price will remain at $299. Kinect will be available on November 4 (no prices mentioned) and launch with 15 titles.
Among the noteworthy titles is a casual game lineup that includes Kinectimals, a pet interaction game, Joyride as well as Adventures. Ubisoft is preparing a controller-less fitness title called Your Shape Fitness Evolved, Harmonix is working on the Dance title Dance central and Forza Motorsport as well as a version of Star Wars will be following in 2011.
Corporate Vice President Phil Spencer said that the new Xbox 360 and Kinect are designed to go beyond the tens of millions of users today and potentially reaches hundreds of millions. Kinect looked great (look for our upcoming analysis), but it looked expensive as well. Hundreds of millions may be a bit optimistic.
